What are Stem Cells?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

The term \u201cstem cell<\/em>\u201d appears in scientific literature in 1868 when
\nGerman biologist Ernst Haeckel uses the phrase stem cell to describe the fertilized egg that becomes an organism.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stem cells are the body\u2019s raw materials\u2014specialized cells that can develop into many different cell types.<\/p>\n

They serve as a repair system for the body, regenerating tissues<\/em>, organs<\/em>, and even blood. Stem cells have the unique ability to self-renew, producing identical copies of themselves, and to differentiate, meaning they can mature into specialized cells such as muscle cells, blood cells, and neurons.<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

What Are Stem Cells?<\/h2><\/div>
Stem cells are special cells that are able to develop into many different types of cells and form various organs in the human body. This can range from brain cells to muscle cells.<\/p>\n

There are 2 types of stem cells \u2014 Embryonic stem cells, which are produced in embryos that are 3 to 5 days old, and Adult stem cells which are found in small numbers in most adult tissues such as the brain, spinal cord, liver, etc.<\/p>\n

Embryonic stem cells<\/strong> are produced in embryos that are 3 to 5 days old. These stem cells are \u201cpluripotent,\u201d which means they have the ability to divide into more stem cells or can become any type of cell in the body. With such versatility, embryonic stem cells can be used to regenerate or repair diseased tissue and organs.<\/p>\n

Adult stem cells<\/strong> are found in a small number in most adult tissues. They are stored in tissues such as the bone marrow, brain, or liver and are most likely to generate a certain type of cell. For instance, muscle stem cells could only produce more muscle cells.<\/p>\n

On the contrary, researchers were able to create \u201cinduced pluripotent stem cells\u201d in laboratories and use them in stem cell therapy to improve patients\u2019 conditions.<\/p>\n
